5 year old sorrel gelding. This heeling gelding was born and bred to be a cow horse on the
Tongue River Ranch in
Paducah Texas.
Monkey's Sire, Monkey Cue Bar
is a champion reiner and you can see from his picture where Monkey gets his stop from. His
pedigree includes lots of the San Peppy
and Doc Bar horses which are renowned for their cow sense.
He's always there in the right place and be ready when you throw the loop because he's stopping hard and fast every time. You will not get outrun by a steer. Quiet in the box, and he loves his job. The cool thing about this gelding is his personality. Ride him hard and he'll still follow you around the pasture like a puppy dog. Sorrel horses sometimes look common, but this is a good looking, shapey horse that you can't help but look at. He's not afraid of work - in fact he loves to work. Rope twenty steers and the last is the same as the first. My ten year old has heeled on him out of the box and my eight year old heels the donkey on him. This horse is suitable for a #5 to #10 heeler and has the potential to be a pro horse after he's seasoned. Probably not suitable for a very beginner roper because he breaks and stops so hard. The rider need to be ready so he's not left in the box and needs to be a quick dally since he stops so hard. Come try him out, steers available, or watch for him at Houston area team ropings ridden by Santiago De La Cruz. Santiago rides a lot of different rope horses every year and this is one of his favorites. He's already put Santiago at the pay window multiple times in his first outs. Update: Monkey came in 4th and 5th in a charity roping of 350 teams. Monkey and Captain Crunch had the fastest time of the day at 5 seconds. $6500 - price increases as he's hauled more. |
